Judo made its first look at the Olympic Games at 1964 in Tokyo. However, it wasn’t contained at the Olympic programme in 1968 at Mexico City, but returned, never to depart, in the 1972 Games at Munich. As for women’s judo, it had been added to this Games at 1992 in Barcelona.

Men and girls today compete in seven weight classes. There was initially a men’s group available to all weights, but this occasion was removed following the 1984 Games at Los Angeles.
