Switzerland’s Gabriela Andersen-Schiess completed 37th within the inaugural ladies’s Olympic marathon on the Los Angeles 1984 Summer Games. However, her refusal to give up the race regardless of the exhausting circumstances and affected by dehydration led to an iconic Olympic second as sheer dedication noticed her over the end line.
